About Church of Christ Churches

Churches of Christ are autonomous congregations that seek to pattern worship and church life strictly after the New Testament. They practice a cappella singing — no instruments in worship — based on their reading of Scripture. Baptism by immersion for the forgiveness of sins is considered essential to salvation. Each congregation is self-governing with no denominational hierarchy above the local elders and deacons. Communion (the Lord's Supper) is observed every Sunday. Churches of Christ tend toward conservative theology with a strong emphasis on biblical authority, regular Bible study, and evangelism. Services are typically reverent and orderly.
